Religious School
December 2024
Hello everyone,
Sending everyone warmth and light as we head into the coldest and darkest time of the year!
This month, in particular, we read about two encounters Jacob has with God in the midst of the dark, in the midst of the night, in the midst of fear. In the first encounter, he sees a vision in his dream of angels going up to heaven and back down to earth, and in the second, Jacob wrestles with an angel throughout the night.
While darkness and night are times of uncertainty and fear, we can unexpectedly find light and encounter the divine. Midrash teaches that every miracle God performed to save the Jewish people from the wicked was performed at night. As we head into this season of darkness, may we bring light with us, and may we seek what is holy and unique in the dark.
We’re preparing for and celebrating Hannukah in the religious school this month! Parents, we’d love to have you participate in latke-making on December 8th, led by the wonderful Morry Korinow!
We’ll also have the Hannukah party on the 15th, with fun, games, latkes, dreidls, and more!
